Growing up in Southern Georgia Jennifer Nettles grew up singing in every church in coffee county. Kristian Bush had a fiddle in his hand by the time he was 3. Years later they formed Sugarland and quickly rose from playing local bars in Atlanta, to playing sold out stadiums across the country. Fans just seem to love Kristian Bush’s finger pickin and Jennifer Nettles country twang. While they have made Atlanta their home base, this county duo loves to hit the road. After taking home 2 Grammys, and a slew of country music awards, this year is proving to be the sweetest yet for Sugarland.

First Question:
Oprah:  When did it finally feel like you made it?

Jennifer Nettles:   Right now feels like a good moment. I think the Grammys were a good moment, where you just go…how is this even my life. This is stuff that dreams are made of. We are doing that. We are living that. When you are little and you are growing up, and you’re hopin and you’re wishin and you’re dreamin and to think that it can actually happen. We’re livin that dream.

Oprah:  Kristian you have been doin the fiddle since you were?

Kristian Bush:  Jeez…maybe 3? 4? So I don’t remember consciously not being able to play an instrument. So it’s been kind of like a language to me.

Oprah:  Like a language…Wow. I’ve never heard it described that way before. Ok so you’re on stage, and we all saw you at the HBO concert on the day of the Inauguration the afterwards, President Obama says what to you?

Jennifer Nettles:  Nice Pipes Girl. Nice Pipes. I Loved it. I loved it!

Oprah:  Jennifer…I heard you worked 5 jobs.

Jennifer Nettles:  Not in the same day. Not all in one day.

Oprah:  You worked 5 jobs when you were starting out as a singer?

Jennifer Nettles:  You have to. You know a lot of times to make ends meet. There is no guidebooks that tells you, like Carrie said how to do this and how to make a livin at it. So I worked in an art gallery. I was a nanny, and I painted houses and I got over my fear of heights by paining houses this one summer. Burning up, me on a ladder imagine it. Now don’t say a word Kenny Chesney. You have to do that. It gives you character.

Oprah:  So how has success impacted you guys?

Kristian Bush:  Well…You have a lot more family. Than you ever knew you had.

Oprah:  That’s the first thing that happens.

Kristian Bush:  That’s the first thing that happens…your family gets REAL BIG!

Oprah:  You grow cousins.

Jennifer Nettles:  It’s exciting to in that they share in your joy, but I know I was saying to Kristian earlier about this. We had a thanksgiving for example, where that’s all everybody wanted to talk about as this was just initially taking off , and there was a moment where I had to say OK … I love what I do, and I love that you love what I do, but can we just talk about something else? Cause woo…I am tired of talking about this.

Oprah:  Kristian can I ask you…cause I know you come from the Bush’s baked bean family.

Kristian Bush:  Yes Ma’m

Oprah:  So does that mean you all have baked beans nearly every meal.

Kristian Bush:  You’re gonna love this…but I can’t stand em. I can’t. You guys buy beans like this and
I grew up and there were cans like this!

Oprah:  It’s great to have you here and now we get to hear you sing. Next Sugarland performs their huge hit All I Want to Do.
